Christmas at St Andrew's

Updated: Dec 29, 2024

St Andrew's Church has been a hub of activity this festive season, bringing together the church family and wider community for a series of heartfelt and meaningful celebrations.

Renewal of Vows: A Beautiful Beginning

The festive period commenced with a touching Renewal of Vows service for Ann Marie and Mike. Surrounded by their family, friends, and church family, the couple reaffirmed their commitment to one another in an emotional ceremony. The church was filled with love and gratitude as everyone celebrated this special milestone in their journey together.

'Our Loved Ones' Memorial Services

The Annual 'Our Loved Ones' Memorial Services provided a time of reflection and remembrance for many. Held at 3pm and 6pm, these services collectively welcomed around 150 attendees. Through prayers, readings, and moments of silence, attendees found comfort and connection in their shared memories.

Christmas Lunch: A Feast of Fellowship

The church hall came alive with warmth and generosity during the Annual Christmas Lunch, lovingly prepared by Bishop Paul and his dedicated team. Liz, Daniel, Colin, Chris, and Pamela provided invaluable support, ensuring every detail was spot on. Special thanks go to Pamela for her continued commitment to the Luncheon Club throughout the year.

Carols and Lessons

The Carols and Lessons Service brought together over 30 readers from the congregation. Through scripture readings and beloved carols, the service captured the essence of the Christmas story. The congregation joined in heartfelt singing, filling the church with the joyous sound of praise and celebration.

Choir and Children's Nativity: Rumours of Angels

The Choir and Children's Nativity was a highlight of the festive period. The choir’s performance of extracts from Graham Kendrick's Rumours of Angels was both moving and uplifting, while the children brought the Nativity story to life with enthusiasm, charm and lots of fun.

Midnight Holy Communion: Welcoming Christmas Day

On Christmas Eve, the church gathered for the special Midnight Holy Communion service. With around 40 people in attendance, the service welcomed in Christmas Day. As the clock struck midnight, Bishop Paul rang the church bell. Following this the congregation shared in Holy Communion, celebrating the birth of Christ with a profound sense of awe and gratitude.

Christmas Day Service: A Joyful Conclusion

The festive celebrations concluded with our Christmas Day Service, a joyous occasion shared with the church family. The service was filled with carols, prayers and presents.
